“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.”

– Walter Winchell

Sometimes, an act of friendship can spark another act of friendship. When I get complimented or appraised, it inspires me to compliment someone else. This is called the ripple affect of friendship. Not only does it happen more than you think, but it also is much more important than you think. It shows that a simple act of kindness can go a long way.

Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.

Stitch

A true family has trouble saying goodbye to each other. Like any real family, my family cares and worries about each other’s well being. Our bond made it especially difficult to move my older brother into college at Holy Cross. That Saturday, bittersweet melancholy filled the air as we sent off a young man into his collegiate years.

A Man’s Best Friend

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself.

- Josh Billings

Every day when I get home from school, I open the door to two barking, ferocious beasts of dogs. Well, not exactly beasts. You see my two dogs have large personalities that do not meet their physique. They are pugs, which means their faces are as flat as a board, and their bodies are about the size of two footballs placed next to each other. One looks as if he has been on this earth for 70 years, and the other looks like he just came out of his mothers womb.

The name of the youngest is Ozzy. He is not exactly the brightest dog in the world, but he sure is the sweetest. Ozzy loves the presence of other people. For example, Ozzy never sleeps in his own bed when in the dog pen. He always squeezes into Angus’ bed. His happiness is contagious, and he makes it painful not to smile. Ozzy is one of the most innocent beings on this planet, and his love of life is one that I strive for.

The older dog’s name is Angus. He is the wisest, most intelligent dog I have ever met. He has grey hairs all over his face, and when he stares into your eyes, it feels like your having a conversation with him. Angus connects with people on a spiritual level. He has an especially unique relationship with my dad where there is mutual respect for one another. He is diabetic and has had many surgeries in effort to keep him alive. He also suffers from anxiety. He hates when you enter his house, and he hates when you exit his house. Angus knows what he wants and what he doesn’t.

I love my pugs to the moon and back. Their ability to brighten my day in seconds amazes me. Their obedience is admirable, except when one thing is involved; food.
