Final Year Metacognition

Even though things are difficult, they will prepare you

It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end - Ernest Hemingway

At the beginning of the school year, I was a bit worried about doing Fitz English, because I had heard that it is very difficult compared to other English classes, and there’s a lot of work required.

My Strange Addiction

My Strange Addiction

Why I watch too many horror movies

EAE88E60-716E-42CB-9A7E-D84721424A4E

Heeeeeere’s Johnny! - Jack Torrence

A terrified family, haunted by an unspeakable evil, unaware of their own daughters possession. An African American man visiting his girlfriends family’s house to find a strange aggression. A deaf women in a home invasion situation. A newly wedded wife who’s new family has a deadly blood relation. A possessed doll. A demon nun. A psychic father. A shining son. All of these phrases are in some way similar, and if you think it’s just horror movies, you’re wrong, it’s something much more sinister...

The Ski Race of Disappointment

The Ski Race of Disappointment

Why you shouldn’t always get mad at yourself

Sometimes we create our own heartbreak through expectation - Amber

The wind slaps me across the face as I shoot through the starting line like a bullet. The ice on the course is as slippery as a bar of soap, and I fly down the course like an eagle that has spotted its prey. A striking blue sky and a blazing sun shine on the soft snow as I patiently wait for my turn to soar across the finish line. My first run was complete, and I had got almost the worst time. Given that this was my first race ever, and I was competing against college students who had been racing for over ten years, I was proud of my first run. Since about five kids had fallen on the course and not crossed the finish line, I was not the last to run the course unlike my last run. I had been waiting for about an hour to start my second run, and I was ready. One of my coaches helped me scrape the heavy snow off my boot, and I popped my skis on. I slid into the starting line as my heart rate slowly raised. Right before the timer reached 1, my coach told me something I remembered for the whole run. “All you need to do is finish, don’t worry about your time, just finish the course and be happy with yourself.” And with that note in my head, I shot across the starting line.

The Power of I

The Power of I

How everybody has different thoughts

C59E837A-398B-4FF5-9935-3B1300B77190

“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right” - Henry Ford

I am a human being that has a lot of thoughts. I think about a lot of things, mostly the things that aren’t as important in life, but the things that I think should be more fair. When your playing a game of monopoly and you figure out your friends are teaming up on you, or when you get in trouble because you lightly tapped your sister who then decided to throw things at me, and you take all of the blame. All of these things happen so much to me, and even though it’s not the biggest deal in the world, I believe that things like this are not fair and should be treated more seriously.

The Power of Chores

The Power of Chores

Why the best part of doing chores is the result

“I'm not going to vacuum 'til Sears makes one you can ride on.”
Roseanne Barr

Chores can be a massive pain. But when you’re moving in a week, some things have to be done. Since I am going to the Concord Carlisle High school, I am moving to concord. I have only moved once in my life, but I was young so I didn’t have to worry about packing and chores. Now that I am moving again, my sisters and I have a ton of chores to do.

Moving

Why moving can seem sad, but in reality it’s not

Cleaning out the past, packing up the present, and preparing for a much better future  - unknown

During quarantine, it seems like nothing is possible. You have to sit at home all day and you never have anything to do. Well that is a bit different for my family. We are moving to Concord in two weeks, and I’m pretty excited.

An Experience With A Friend

An Experience With A Friend

Why having different personalities doesn’t mean you can’t have fun

When you choose your friends, don’t be short changed by choosing personality over character - W. Somerset Maugham

Experiences with friends are usually really fun. I have had many great experiences with friends throughout my lifetime. I used to have a house in Cape Cod, and we had a boat that we would ride to Martha’s Vineyard almost every weekend. I had just got back from a week of sleep away camp, and my friend Sean was coming up to the Cape, and we were planning to ride up to a beach in Martha’s Vineyard. I was really exited for Sean to experience what I have experienced for most of my time in Cape Cod.

Why you should take advantage of quarantine

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin

I have recently finished a book called “One of us is lying” by Karen M. McManus. It is about a kid named Simon in high school who has an allergic reaction to peanut oil lathered on the inside of his water cup, and the four other kids in the room are held accountable for Simon’s murder. The book has multiple other main factors in the storyline, but that doesn’t matter much.

Why trying new things can have a great impact on you

Image

Movies will make you famous; Television will make you rich; But theatre will make you good - Terrence Mann

I have always had a lot of fun acting in theater (mostly at Fenn) because you get to spend time with your friends and you get to have a great time standing up on stage and acting. What I didn’t know about plays is that musicals are ten times different than your average theater performance.
