Why you should take advantage of quarantine

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin

I have recently finished a book called “One of us is lying” by Karen M. McManus. It is about a kid named Simon in high school who has an allergic reaction to peanut oil lathered on the inside of his water cup, and the four other kids in the room are held accountable for Simon’s murder. The book has multiple other main factors in the storyline, but that doesn’t matter much.

I wanted to have something to do during this boring time in life, and even though I didn’t like reading that much, I figured it was one of the only options I could do. Usually I get really bored when I start reading a book, I get distracted and sometimes don’t even end up finishing the book. That scenario is for most books. Few books that I’ve read have really got me hooked into to the story and I can never put the book down. This includes the books The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Divergent, and this book of course.

I would spend a lot of time during quarantine reading this book, especially during the night. Sometimes I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night, so I would either sneak downstairs and watch Netflix, or I would read. I find reading in the night is much more relaxing than reading during the day, because you feel more comfort in the night rather than in the day when every five minutes your sister barges into your room and annoys you. The book was also super fun to read, because it was a page turner with cliffhangers at the end of almost every chapter. Since each chapter is a different character’s perspective, after a cliffhanger of one character, you would have to read another three chapters to get back to the person you wanted too. The best part about the book is that more clues come out subtly until the climax, and its one of those moments where you have to process what happened, but then everything comes to you and it all makes sense.

Quarantine isn’t a really ideal time to have fun and hang out with friends, but there are still many things you can do inside your house that you usually wouldn’t have the time to do on a normal daily routine. Sometimes you have to do things that you may not like that much, but sometimes the result won’t be as bad as you think it would be.
