Things end but memories last forever

As I am reading the directions to this reflection assignment on Fitz’s very helpful and handy assignment sheets, I decided that despite it saying to write about our class this year, I will write about my entire Fitz experience — which extends back to eighth grade.

Before eighth grade had begun I had heard great things abut being in Fitz’s class, and that his class was the one you should want to be in the most. As a ninth grader now, I can confirm that it is true. I walked into Fitz’s classroom on the first day of eighth grade and was glad to see a room full of couches and comfy chairs. It was definitely a change from the other classrooms... a very good change. In fact, I think I liked the chairs a little too much. Sometimes in class I would be hanging out on those comfy blue chairs while talking with my friends, and suddenly I would hear that heart sinking phrase... “alright everyone gather around the round table”. “Can’t we just work from the chairs?” My friends and I would ask, but no was usually the answer.

Sitting at the round table talking about what we were going to be doing this week, or recapping what we had covered was not too bad though. It was kind of like a breath of fresh air. Other classes were always like lectures, but in Fitz’s class we would always have conversations. That sure was nice. Fitz’s class became my favorite class shortly after I was introduced to it. Partly because I enjoy writing, and partly because the whole Fitz classroom experience is a lot of fun. Fitz’s room also became my favorite room very quickly. So much so that my friend and I would hang out there before the school day began even though that was not our advisory room.

Focusing more on my work as a writer these past few years, I think Fitz helped me a lot in becoming a better writer. I still think I have a good amount to learn about how to write better, but I was taught a whole lot of things in this class. I have learned so much about how to properly use commas, other punctuation, different styles of writing, and so much more. One of the things that has stuck with me the most is the phrase soyet andornorforbut. This phrase probably makes no sense to someone just hearing about it, but if you debunk the words it is spelled using the words (so, yet, and, or, nor, for, but) all of those are words you would put a comma before. That is just one of the many examples of things I have learned about writing from Fitz.

In Fitz’s English class I have also done a large sum of reading. From The Hobbit, to All Quiet On The Western Front, to The Odyssey, and more. I liked almost all of the books we read, and I think that is was great that we usually wrapped  up the units by doing some sort of project or video about the books. That was a good way to end it. In addition we also did writing along with the books. We did many literary analysis’ and narrative paragraphs and those allowed me to understand and explore the book better.

Overall I have loved my entire Fitz English class experience. I have had so many great memories from the class, and also a large sum of challenges came with it. Thank you Fitz for an amazing and very informational two years of English class!
