“The unexamined life is not worth living”

Socrates

Your thinking spot, an atmosphere of serenity, where your thoughts mingle and thrive. Where my thoughts find their way in a mental asylum of discourse to be relinquished of their worth and reduced to an idea (the novice stage of a thought) resuming the cycle of thoughts, thinking. When I need to alleviate my mind of the thoughts; suppress the ongoing cacophony in my brain I seek my spinning chair in which I can let the birds fly. What is the average office business chair, used for the leisure sit down and dawdle on the computer, turns into an abode in which my thoughts can be safely regarded. A key, in which unlocks the floodgates. Given to me as a gift, to furnish my empty bedroom, alongside a desk supposed to be used for the purpose of studying, this spinning chair and me have been through a lot of turns physically, and emotionally. Through these rounds in the chair, scanning the current being of my life and my room, the spinning chair has always been there.

The Power of Respect

From Me to You and You to Me

A Mutual Sense of Respect

C23C4014-173A-4B4A-A5D7-F25534C72B7B

“A person's a person, no matter how small.”

Dr. Seuss

Respect is given, then mutually earned. For true respect to take play, it has to be consensual; an unspoken pact, held by the adhesive of trust. Without respect, the world ceases to go round; a general sense of acknowledgement for someone’s differences can be shown by talking to them casually, and that is respect. Without this concept of respect, the connotations left for restraint run wild, tempering with the very ideals this country was built on. When I found the likes of my respect, solely dependent on my leniency, I began to ponder why I was not worthy this respect. With everyday in that summer camp, back in sixth grade, came instances in which my morals were challenged by the test of restraint due to the maltreatment I was shown.

The Power of Nature

Never Again

The Bridge to New Experiences

I hate nature. I really do. Nature is composed entirely of sticks, dirt, fall-down places, biting and stinging things, and savageries too numerous to list.

Sue Grafton

Beauty is best measured by the eye of the a wielder than that of the welder. I find that nature is best observed rather than perused, researched rather than scoured. As I trekked through the proclaimed mundane mountain, every step was full of regret. As I endured every painstakingly tiring step, my classmates has already left; as I struggled to maintain my breath, I was well informed there was no going back. It was then on my 7th grade hike to Wachusetts Mountain that I forced myself through the declared routine and habitual hike up that daunting mountain.

The Power of Unyielding Friendship

Whether You Like It or Not

“The people I'm stuck with in my life now aren't sucking the life out of me, they just suck.”

~Melina Marchetta

        F
riendship always lingers in the instance of contiguity. No matter the confines we find our self in, or the extremity of the restraints, no matter the auxiliary in which you can increment to the circumscriptions, distance nor time could suppress our connection to each other. Whether this maxim to which our friendship stringently abides is inauspicious to your current demeanor, whether you have endured nuisance after nuisance, quagmire after quagmire to be demeaned by our vitriolic nature, whether you frankly just want to be left alone, they are always there. It was over this past summer, when I aggregated enough evidence to support this implicit truth.

The Sniper

A Price to Pay

Misfortunes lead by conflict

A648D776-06AD-449C-839D-999124A7FF67

“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”

 Winston Churchill

The lengths in which one would go only pertains to the result. ‘The Sniper’ showed me the contingencies of war, and the limits in which the ideals held in the constituting of reputations can be impelled in one’s life. Though, as simple as it sounds, two sides in contention with one another, to the point in which war is waged. This simplistic condensation, does not begin to harbor the magnitude and the implications of war in ones life. The horrors of war can make one question the most cardinal of beliefs; war strips away from the congealed layers in which substantiated your verdict before it toys with its foundation.

The Gift of the Magi

An Unexpected Love

Essay pic copy

"Such is my love, to thee I so belong,
That for thy right myself will bear all wrong."
~William Shakespeare

The beauty within is always masked by the facade. The Gift of the Magi reminded me that behind every book, there is a story to be told; no matter how old it is, the story transcends the aspect of time, and the meaning behind the words resonate with you. The Gift of the Magi, as unappealing it sounded to a reader like myself. As antique as the story portrayed itself to me, has inspired me to detour from my old ways of judging a book. This book told me a story, using language that I couldn't comprehend, plot that I couldn't follow, and it intertwines the whole scheme and moral together like a nicely knit sweater.

The Power of Brotherhood

The brother I never had

“To find yourself, think for yourself.”

~Socrates

You’ll realize who’s there for you when you’re at your worst. It was myself I found when I was stranded in the dark and desolate abyss. In times of solitude and longing, when I felt like I was alone in the world. I found solace in my thoughts, keeping myself entertain and occupied when I felt lonely in this rife yet insufficient world. A preoccupied world, and me, without a destination. Never in my life had my thoughts become so essential to me; never was the lack of a sibling so apparent to me; never have I ever been so inundated with nostalgia for the friends I once had other than my move from Ghana to America. All for the sake of what? A mystery.

My Ideal Pet

What Pet Would I Want and Why

88CED21B-2865-465C-B350-79656FF34C48

I have always wanted a pet; a companion in which you could bond with. As an only child in someways you are forced to rely on friends as that companion, though when you have a pet, you know for sure it is going to be there. It is up to you to determine it’s meaning in your life. I don’t want a dog, a hyperactive beast with a brusque attention span. Doing its business all over the house, and it is my business to clean up after him. Running around longing for attention, pestering me incessantly to take it for a walk, no, I for sure don’t want a dog. I want a pet which has appeal, but not because of all the raucous it provides; one that is patient, but it is not longing of companionship. A pet that is to itself, but in the right company it can be open; I want a pet like me. That is why in my though, I decided if I were to have a pet I would go for a chameleon. A chameleon is an interesting creature, most of them are self reliant, for if you were to put them in a cage with one of their own without the proper condition, things could get hostile. Chameleons are a picturesque animal, their colors can vary based on the temperature of the environment they find their selves in and their current mood. I find myself to be an observant person, which is why if I were to have a chameleon I would be able to appreciate it a lot more than the average person. A chameleon would be my ideal pet because I feel like I can relate to it and understand it, unlike potential experiences with other animals.
