20000 Leagues Under the Sea, Second Metacognition
“Come with me, and you’ll be, in a world of pure Imagination”
-Willy Wonka
Curiosity is one of the most important human traits. It allowed us to create, explore, and invent, and without it we would have died off long ago. In the 19th century 20000 Leagues Under the Sea was written to capture the human imagination. Even today the book has shown me how important imagination truly is. The Nautilus isn’t just a perfect prediction of the modern Nautilus submarine, it embodies human progress and innovation. Jules Vern is able to capture my personal imagination one hundred and fifty years after he wrote the book. Every evening, I’m transported into the nautilus and captain Nemo, to Atlantis and massive undersea clams, and at the end, I often end up reading for several hours. I’m disappointed that I’m almost finished with the story, but when I’m done I’m positive that it will stay with me, even years into the future, I’ll remember the mysterious captive Nemo and his amazing vessel, and all of the imaginative, and amazing places he visits.
