The Meaning of Friendship
By Elliot Johnson
A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.”
– Walter Winchell
Frienship is one of the most important thing a person can have. Friends comfort you when you feel awful, and can make a bad day a good day. Friends are pretty much all Paul has on the front, which has in a way became a home for him. It’s in a way similar to when I moved to Massachusetts about a year ago.
One of the things that I had been most uncertain about before going to my new school was how many friends I would have, if any, and it all ended up being fine. It was actually Liam Brown who showed me the first form of kindness at school, it was a handshake in Ms. Duval’s class, that was all, but it meant a lot to me, and ended up affecting my entire life. The next day I approached him and after a quick conversation he introduced me to his own friends, who I got along with very well, that was when I decided that these boys would end up being good friends, it took a few more days, but before long I was (At least I seemed to be) a member of the group. Over a year and a half has passed since that day, and I don’t think that has changed. All that Liam had done was offer a handshake, a smile, and a friendly introduction, and that ended up being all that it took. That’s why I feel like that is the most important event that happened at school. Before he gave me that handshake, I was terrified, and being even quieter than y normal self. (Which I know shouldn’t even be possible) but I felt much more confident in the hours and days that followed. Liam Brown singlehandedly made me feel welcome and accepted at Fenn, and that meant the world to me. So, Liam, I have to say, thank you.
