“Teachers do what students do.. But do it for every single one of their students... In the end, they do it 100 times over.”

-Anonymous teacher

Teachers, every student has had a special moment with them. Whether it’s in sports, the arts, academics and extracurriculars. It doesn’t matter, teachers.. especially Mr Sandborn, have had special moments with me. In September of 2017, my first month at Fenn, I had been having trouble. Mr Sandborn saw this, so he asked me a simple question. “Do you need help with that Elliot?” Me, a tall wide eyed new kid, wasn’t expecting this. But Mr Sandborn was a kind, caring, and compassionate teacher, who changed my life then and there. That simple moment, is the foundation for who I am at Fenn today. Everything got better after that, I was tutored and that was probably the biggest help I received that year, but so many other little things allowed me to thrive at fenn.. The change wasn’t immediate, I didn’t receive any honor card the first term, but I did improve a lot in school. After the humiliation of not having my name called I ended up giving school my all. Mr Sandborn is the teacher that helped me reach my full potential in Math. The moment when he asked if I needed help is the moment when I began to change, and one of the most special moments I have ever had with a teacher. I didn’t know it at the time, but after that day, I would never look at school the same way again. That is how it changed my life, I no longer looked at school as a burden, but then realized that education is the most important thing to a successful life. Not necessarily going to a prestigious university, but more because of the unrefined knowledge that you learn while you’re there. The most important thing that I learned in 7th grade, was to try... I learned that when Mr Sandborn asked me for hep, and I have changed for the better since then.
