What Christmas Means to Me

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

-Clement Moore

Every year, across the globe, over two Billion Christians gather with their families to celebrate Christmas, but there are others who celebrate the world’s largest holiday as well, but its roots have been, and always will be rooted in Christianity. My family is no different. Every year, we gather together, sometimes it is with my dad’s side of the family, most of the time it is with my mom’s, but we always end up with over ten people in one house. I can’t count the number of times that I have slept in my brother’s room since my room is being used by guests. When we aren’t hosting, I usually end up sleeping in the same room as my brother again, but I don’t really mind that. What I do mind is when my mother invites 18 people to our house, and this has happened twice. It’s not that I dislike the people coming over, but I am an introverted person, and I can only manage about six of these people at a time, not 18. But aside from the small exceptions, Christmas has always, and will always be my favorite holiday, just like Thanksgiving, it brings family together, and family is one of the most important things someone can have.  Even if there are 12 too many people coming to my house. Obviously presents are great, but to me, seeing the family is honestly more important, and there is something that is uplifting about seeing a Christmas tree next to a roaring fireplace, with family members all around you. In the end, although every family has flaws, and always seems to have a political divide in it, the family is the most special part of Christmas, just like it is for Thanksgiving. Family is one of, if not the most important things in life, and it is very important to stay close to one’s family and all of its members, and that is what Christmas is, and always will be to me.
