Christmas Brings My Family Together

Its not what’s under the Christmas tree that matters, its who's around it

Christmas is a time where you can be with your family, together. It was christmas that I was excited for because I can be with my family sharing jokes and presents. When Christmas comes around, my family always spend time together, decorating the tree, watching movies, and sharing presents with each other. I actually enjoy the days that are leading up to christmas. I love being there with my family, together around the christmas tree. I had just woken up on Christmas day. My family was still asleep but we had agreed that I could wake them up at seven in the morning. I woke them up and me and my siblings had to wait at the top of the stairs for my parents to get out of bed. It was a tradition in my family that on Christmas morning, our whole family had to walk down the stairs together so we could see what was under the tree at the same time. I didn’t care that I had to wait to go downstairs. I was just excited to open my presents and give presents to my family. I love sitting around the tree and seeing everybody together hugging each other in thanks. Just being together as a family really warms my heart. From now on, I will always look forward to being together with my family and giving presents rather than getting presents from others

The Power Of Tradition In The Lottery

The people had done it so many times that they only half listened to the directions: most of them were quiet. wetting their lips. not looking around

- The Lottery

There is the power of tradition in most things. In the short story The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson. The theme, power of tradition played a huge role in this story. This had a effect on me personally because I can relate to having a tradition in my family or in the greater community around me. In this short story, the author is trying to show the reader what it is like to have a tradition and to for-fill it every year. The author shows how the lottery is set up every year. He shows how everybody knows when it is happening. And he shows that everybody is used to being at the lottery and they know how it roles.

The main characters in this story are Mr. Summers, who runs the lottery. And the people of the town who participate in the lottery. “They do say,' Mr. Adams said to Old Man Warner, who stood next to him, 'that over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery.” The main conflict in this story is the lottery. The lottery is when each of the family have a representative from their family and they get a piece of paper. If the paper has a black dot on it, then the representative gets stones throws at him or her until he or she dies. This story takes place at the beginning of the summer on November 27. This story takes happens  in a small village. The lottery also happens in other villages.

I can connect to the short story in many ways. One of the main themes in the story is the power of tradition. I have many traditions in my family like putting up a christmas tree during the holidays. I always going trick-or-treating on halloween with Theo. When I was reading The Lottery, I was thinking about all of the traditions that happen around me. The Lottery showed me that we can not give up our traditions.

There is tradition in most things. Whether its at home, in the greater community, or even in the whole world. There are many things that bring tradition to life.

It is really sad to be in hard times or to watch somebody else while they are in hard times. My moms best friend from business school had just passed away after having pancreatic cancer for six months. I didn’t know him that well but him and my mom were very close. She was obviously having a hard time processing this.

Parents are mostly always right. Whatever they say, you should listen too because they have more experience than you. They know what its like to forget something and be miserable because you forgot it. They know what its like to decide not to bring a rain jacket to school when it might rain, and then it does and you don't have one.

How Tom Sawyer Has Curiosity and Adventure Inside Him

While Tom was eating his supper, and stealing sugar as opportunity offered

The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer (chapter 1) - Mark Twain

In this quote, Tom was eating his dinner and Aunt Polly turned away for a second. While she wasn’t looking, he snuck some sugar. He did this because he saw an opportunity and he took advantage of it. He was curious of the sugar and he wanted more. In the book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Mark Twain portrays Tom as a boy that is full of adventure and curiosity. I read this book with adventure through the pages and always curious to keep reading to see what happens next.

Reflection Essay On Me Relating To Tom Sawyer

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!

- Dr. Seuss

Adventure and rebellion is in every twelve year old boy. In the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Tom the main character is very adventurous and rebellious. This book was really fun because it was hard to read but once you got the hang of it it was a great read. I think that the author was trying to tell the story of a twelve year old boy in the eighteen twenties who caused trouble and loved adventure and mischief.  Every chapter had some theme that showed mischief, adventure and/or trouble. One night Tom and Huck were in the graveyard. They heard some voices and they hid behind a tree. Then they recognized a voice, it was Injun Joe. The next thing they heard was a gun shot and then there was one man lying on the ground and two had run away. They didn’t tell anybody what had happened because they didn't want anyone to know that they had been out in the dark. When the trial came around for Injun Joe, there were many witness that day. They had only seen the men before they went out but they hadn’t seen what happened. Then the lawyer called Tom Sawyer to the podium. Nobody knew why. He denied that he had been there to keep himself safe and Huck. This was an act of rebellion and lying.

I meant what I said and I said what I meant

- Dr. Suess

These chapters were all guided off of Tom getting rejected by Becky. Tom and Becky both said to each other “I love you.” Then after Becky said it to Tom, she ran away. Tom held her back and kissed her on the lips to make the engagement real. But to complete the process, Tom had to give Becky the andiron which would be like proposing to her with a ring. Becky threw it down because she found out that Tom had been engaged before and he still loved the person who he had been engaged with. Tom ran away into the woods because he was sad that he got rejected.

Why Fit In When You Were Meant To Stand Out

Even though you may not realize it, when your siblings are annoying, they might not be trying to be. My brother has autism and he does things that he doesn’t realize bug other people around him. He likes to read book about animals and watch fictional movies. Sometimes he blurts out movie quotes and can not stop telling facts about animals.
