Growing old is mandatory-growing up is optional-Chili Davis

Growing up something nobody likes to do, but is something we all do. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, Tom faces some natural, yet brutal experiences of growing up. He grows to a level to try to be closer to people that he wouldn’t want to be close with when he was younger.

Tom Sawyer Reflection

Metacognition

Good moods’re as fragile as eggs. Bad moods’re as fragile as bricks-David Mitchell

The chapters that we read this past week were ones of very different mood and character. From five to ten the mood and situation changed almost on each chapter. In the chapter where Tom talked to Becky I felt like Tom should’ve not spoken about the girl that he was “engaged” to; that’s talking to a girl 101. Also when he pinned her to the wall and kissed her that wouldn’t be allowed in this day in age. That would frowned upon by nearly everyone, and maybe considered assault. In the chapter where he pretends that he’s Robin Hood, I thought he lost his mind. At first he was talking about witches and their hexes, then becoming a pirate, then pretending to be Robin Hood. I was actually concerned for his mental health, especially since it was just after the whole Becky episode. Then the murder. This was a very quick and abrupt change of pace and tempo. That wasn’t something I was prepared for at all, and caught me off guard. Mark Twain describes it nearly perfectly and really gave an image, and emotion for all of the moments in the book so far. The big moment for me in this week’s reading was the one with Becky. That one probably stood out to me most because I can sort of relate to sort of situation. Where you like someone then you say the wrong thing, and then you’re out of the friendzone (which is extreme). Each one of these chapters is also like a puzzle, you have to figure out what each character is trying to say, and what it means in the grand scheme of the book/chapter. So far I’ve enjoyed reading this book, and I hope I will enjoy the rest of it.

Family is not an important thing; it is everything- Micheal J. Fox

Family is like a safety net, they are always there to catch you when you fall. They will encourage me to fly, but if I fall they’ll catch me. I was in my basement with the test that would decide my grade for the term, but there was a new game that had just come out on my PlayStation that I had been waiting for since the summer. Guess what I chose to do.

Me and Tom Sawyer

Reflection on similarities with Tom Sawyer

Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't. - Mark Twain

Tom Sawyer is a character who has some trouble with sticking to the rules. He tries to steal jam from his aunt, he plays hockey from school, and he gets in fights. While I don’t get in fist fights, I can be a little bit mischievous.

Football

The experience

8EBF72C5-66A5-41A8-AC9D-358F36EA889C
Football is my sanctuary, it’s where I go to escape, it’s where I’m most happy - Odell Beckham Jr.

“Set, YUT.” Behemoths of men crash into each other in pure chaos. The ball is thrown in the air and people dive on top of each other to stop the ball from reaching the receiver. This is the brilliant sport of Football.

Football is unbelievably complex, yet simple (I guess that could apply to anything). I could shout out to some one who doesn’t play football and say “go line up near the numbers, and run around and try to catch the football.” And (I think) they would understand that, but if I were to say “go be the x in pistol right.” The would look at me like, “Uh...”. This part of why I love football and find it so interesting. You have to be in shape, you have to be able to take hits, you have to be able to understand concepts and know formations+plays, and you have to have good mechanics. I mostly love it because I can run around with the football and try to make everyone on the other team look like they haven’t played a down of football in their life. Another part of football is teaching you how to work as a team. It teaches you how to support each other, help each other improve, and even get to know people. It also taught me a life lesson. You never truly do something all by yourself.

The best feeling in football is when you beat the person you’re going up against. Either juking someone out, or planting a Linebacker, or stripping the football out of someone’s hands. Those are some of the best feelings in the game, and that is what I strive to do every time I step onto the field.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools speak  they have to say something-Plato

The campfire brought a comforting warmth to the entire class. I had looked like a light had exploded in the sky, and stars took their place. Everyone was taking a chance speaking about things that they had wanted to speak for years. The whole class was full of tears. All wanting to say something before this moment was over. I wanted to do the same thing, but public speaking is a little tough for me and talking about my thoughts and feelings publicly is almost out of the question. So after Ben Lisa started to talk about his grandfather passing away and I thought “why can’t I do the same thing.” So I spoke out.

Breaking a Bone

The day my summer ended

“Life has many ways of testing a persons will. Either by having nothing happening at all, or by having everything happening at once.”- Pualo Coelho

This summer was shaping up to be a great one, but on July 17 I decided to skim board. I was pleading to my mom to turn around. Going to Hyannis was taking over an hour from my Cape house. She just ignored me and continued driving to our friends house. We arrived to the house, little did I know it would be the last few minutes I would stand for weeks.
