A Poison Tree
By: William Blake
I was angry with my friend;
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.
And I waterd it in fears,
Night & morning with my tears:
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.
And it grew both day and night.
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine.
And into my garden stole,
When the night had veild the pole;
In the morning glad I see;
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.
Anger
You will always want a friend by your side. Having a friend to talk to and open up around can make all the difference. In the poem The Poison Tree written by William Blake explores the impact of a friend when you bottle up anger and keep everything to yourself. And how the friend provides support and helps them grow. In the beginning of the poem the speaker is mad at a friend and he told a friend about his anger which later went away. He metaphorically makes the anger like something that you would put in a garden and feeding the plant with tears and fears. The anger turned into a tree which had poison apples hanging from it.
And into my garden stole,
When the night had veild the pole;
In the morning glad I see;
My foe outstretched beneath the tree
This is where the enemy goes into the garden and steals the apple thinking it is a normal apple but little does he know it’s poisonous. And he dies from eating it and the speaker is happy that he is gone.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.
This poem really stood out to me because it shows the importance to never keep anger writhing. William Blake retaliated and told us how it can control and make us feel horrible. It is a powerful poem with an important story. I like how it shows the side of anger and the other side of holding the anger. I really like the word choice and depth in this poem and I can’t wait to recite it. Well its finally over and this was a successful recitation. I forgot one line which made me mad but I tried my best. I should have gone a little slower but overall I thought that I did a good job. I am thankful that I never have to do this again at Fenn.
I like the pictures in your video, I also really enjoyed reading your analysis. You did a great job analyzing anger in your poem. You also did a great job presenting, overall great job!

Great job Aiden. I thought you had a nice presentation but you could have fixed your posture a bit. I also thought you had a strong analysis which helped me understand the true meaning of the poem more. Nice job.

Aiden, your analysis did great job of exploring the feeling of anger. You did not look too confident at the beginning of your presentation but during your presentation you steadily looked more and more confident. Awesome job!

Aiden, I thought your video was great containing very strong photos matching the poem. You also had a great analysis which helped me understand the poem clearly. I liked your presentation, especially the fact you went slow with a clear voice. Great job!
