Make College Cheaper
“Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness means everyone gets what they need.”
―
You are a poor kid living in Detroit trying to go through the college process. You are really smart and at the top of your class. You can’t wait to apply and get accepted to your dream school. But, you worry about the price. It’s way too expensive to afford and you worry about paying off a loan so what do you do? Well since you can’t afford it you decide not to go you’re devastated and decide to go work a 9-5 job instead. This is what lot’s of kids go through each year. The college price is way too high. We need to make it more affordable, lower student debt and find a reasonable price to give students the college experience they deserve.
"We have got to make sure that every qualified American in this country who wants to go to college can go to college -- regardless of income."
He believes that everyone in this country should have the right to go to college even if they can’t afford it. Right now college is getting even more expensive and now an average college tuition is $200,000 for four years which is outrageous for those middle and lower class residents. According to Indeed People who work 9-5 every day on Federal Minimum wage make $15,078 each year which is not even close enough to support two parents and two kids. Plus saving up for college. Many kids aren’t given the opportunities to go to college because of its expensive price. It’s not fair to those lower class people who have the right to go to school.
Lots of college students end up with debt ranging from very small amounts to an amount that will take years to pay off.According to Nerd Wallet 1 in 8 students have debt and the average sum is $28,950. That's a lot of money for a just graduated student to work to pay off. Along with all the other responsibilities that come with being an adult, such as rent, bills, food and transportation. If college were cheaper these student’s wouldn’t have to worry about such big student debt. It would make their lives much easier. Anne Campbell British writer says that
“Poorer students take out larger loans and will have to contribute more to the cost of higher education.”
She is right. The poor students who will take out a loan to afford a college education will live with the debt until they pay it off and that can be difficult. There is more student debt than credit card debt in the world. Again, if we lower the price of college we would have to worry about it at all.
So you are probably thinking what’s a reasonable price then? Well there are a lot of options that could work but in my opinion I feel like $50,000 dollars is a great fee for a four year college education. It’s affordable and not overly expensive and you can pay for it if you are working with minimum wage. Your kid will be 19 in their first year of college. You will have 18 years to save up and that's 6750 days and if you put in eight dollars a day you will have more money than needed. This will allow for the lower/middle class kids to get a solid college education and it will give them a chance to find a decent job to support themselves and their family.
“Studying is something I really love doing, and I just hope to have enough money for tuition.” - Alexandra Kosteniuk
Lots of kids love school. It’s the best part of their day. Then the college process comes and they can’t afford it. It devastates them and they want to go really bad but they just can’t. So they never go to college and never get to experience the greatness of it. Life isn’t fair I get that but every American should have the right to go to college no matter how rich or how poor.
A hobbled horse can never make it to the finish line. We cannot hobble students trying to afford college.
Aiden, you make very interesting points in this article. You were definitely not very frugal with your quotes. I can clearly see that from your essay, you took a lot of time researching this topic.

Aiden, I thought that all of the different statistics you put in your essay added significantly to how much information I gained from reading it. Also when you wrote “ The price of college is outrageous. More than 56% of the world's population can’t afford college tuition” I truly realized the scale of this problem.

Aiden, your essay is very clear and gives a great overview on why college should be cheaper. As you said “ Lots of kids love school. It’s the best part of their day. Then the college process comes and they can’t afford it. It devastates them and they want to go really bad but they just can’t.” Having money be a big factor to your education is unfair. Everyone should be able to go to college. I totally agree with your well explained thoughts. Great Job!

Good writing Aiden. While I might not completely agree with some of your statements you backed them up with clear and concise facts. I also liked your quote, “Fairness does not mean everyone gets the same. Fairness means everyone gets what they need.”. Because it fit very well with the essay and got me in the right state of mind.
