I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
By William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
Nature and Humanity
The bond between humanity and nature brings joy and a feeling of connectedness. In the poem, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth, the speaker is all alone, but he sees these daffodils. He can’t help but be happy from looking at these beautiful daffodils. The speaker also refers to lying on his couch feeling lonely and sad. After this experience, whenever he feels this way, his mind thinks of the beautiful daffodils.
“For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.”
No matter how sad or lonely the speaker feels, when he thinks of the daffodils “dancing in the breeze” his mood and spirit lifts. The speaker realizes the full significance of the daffodils and how they connect him to nature. He was all by himself that day, but he saw the daffodils and he was no longer alone because he was in the presence of these amazing daffodils. This connects him to nature and doesn't just give him momentary joy in a time of sadness, it also will help him achieve deeper and longer lasting happiness from this connection.
Humanity and nature are intertwined and a strong connection can result in happiness.
Reflection
I chose the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by Willam Wordsworth because it has proven it’s worth, because I liked the message of the poem, and because I thought it was a good length. This poem was originally published in 1807 and it is still famous today, so it has proven to last as an influential poem over time. The biggest reason I chose this poem was because I liked the story and message of the poem. The story is about a lonely person who sees daffodils and can’t help but be happy. Then, any time after this that he is lonely and sad, he thinks about these daffodils and it lifts his mood. I liked this message about how a small thing can bring you joy in a time of loneliness. The final reason I chose this poem was because it was a good length. It was long enough to be influential and meaningful, but it was short enough that it wouldn't become boring. I found this poem by looking for around thirty minutes on the different poem websites. I found a couple of good options, but after I went back and looked at these options, I knew that this was the poem I was going to do.
Awesome job Luke! I really liked how you connected nature and humanity to your poem. I also enjoyed reading about why you chose the poem. Overall, amazing job Luke!

Luke, even though you have recited your poem yet I believe that you will do a good job. I thought your use of block quotes and insertion quotes emphasized the connection of nature and humanity.
