Cunning and Courage
Finding a spark of courage
”With that promise, off and away Athena the bright-eyed goddess flew like a bird in soaring flight but left his spirit with nerve and courage.”
~Jack Pesce
My 8th grade summer was a good one. Not the best summer ever but better than others. As it came to a close I had to begin focusing on my ninth grade year and where I'll be going to high school. My immediate thought was I'll be applying to ISL schools and repeating my ninth grade year. But I was wrong.

The Laundry
One Step Closer to Adulthood
”Maturity is a high price to pay for growing up”
~Tom Stoppard
I was laying down in my bed on your average day. Watching TikTok and YouTube on my phone. I then hear a call from downstairs, it's my mom She yells from downstairs, “Do your laundry!”. But I don't know how. That may sound stupid becuase it seems pretty simple. Put clothes in box, turn box on, walk away. But we have a decently fancy laundry machine and we also have to put a bunch of cleaning stuff inside before the clothes.

Mt.Haleakala
“Nobody can bring you peace but yourself.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson
March 16, 2022, Maui, Hawaii. I awake from the sound of my mom and dad's voice talking about the day ahead. They come into the room I'm sharing with my brother and tell us to get up. We have a big day ahead. I look over the small electrical clock laying on the bedside table and it reads: 6:15. I look outside the window above me and it's still dark out. I'm still half awake, but I force my body to stand up and get dressed. After this we walk to get the car from the front desk and my dad gives me a breakfast sandwich that he had just made in the kitchen. Because I am never hungry in the mornings, I just left it to sit next to me on the plate.

Explore
Why we should invest in space travel
~Jack Pesce
We need to explore to succeed. And we need to explore space. In order for us all to live a successful life, we have to explore space because it's in our human nature to explore, we could learn and find new things, and stop world ending disasters.

A Dream Within a Dream
Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow —
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand —
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep — while I weep!
O God! Can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Exam Metacognition
Time Management
"The key is in not spending time, but in investing it." ~Stephen R. Covey
Throughout the whole exam experience I was slacking off. I didn't do a lot of my work and I then caught myself cramming a few nights before doing all of the essay work and reading the book in one night. This was a big mistake because cramming a writing assignment means it might not be my best work. So, I edited my writing for a while and hoped it would be good. During the actual exam period it took me almost an hour editing my essays and making them look nice. The other hour was spent fixing the terrible poopweeding microworx and writing this metacognition. I think that my writing is pretty good and I hope my comma rule skills are also strong because I don't want to get a bad grade on this exam. But, I also want to become a stronger writer and these exercises and comma rules can help me a lot. Looking back at the amount of time I had to write the essays and do the comma rule microworks I think I probably should have managed my time better and not procrastinate as much as I did. If I were to do this whole exam experience again I would read the book quicker and not wait till the last minute, manage my time more efficiently, and get the writing pieces done.

The Old Man and the Sea
A trip without the boy
“The worst cruelty that can be inflicted on a human being is isolation”
~Sukarno
Isolation forces you to find out what you value most. The Old Man And the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway demonstrates how isolation affected The Old Man while wrangling the giant fish. The Old Man has caught no fish for eighty-seven days and for a long time the old man had a young boy with him as an apprentice, but because of the old man’s luck the young boy’s parents made the boy leave and go to another boat. That young boy was the only constant contact the old man had with people while fishing. But when the boy left to go to another boat, a dark wave of isolationism overwhelmed the old man.

The Old Man and the Sea
Reflection and Gratitude
“Knowing yourself is the begging of all wisdom”
~Aristotle
Always reflect and remember what you have and what is meaningful to you. The Old Man and the Sea made me reflect on what others have and helped me become more thankful for what I have. While reading The Old Man and the Sea I noticed that the old man and Santiago did not have much. As I read through the novel I noticed that they live simple lives and only care about what really matters to their lives like family and fishing. This made me realize that they live small and simplistic lives but are still happy. This made me reflect on what I have and made me more grateful for what I do everyday.

The Power of Friendship and Teamwork
The Team That Will be Friends Forever
The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won't be worth a dime.
~Babe Ruth
Strong friendships make strong teams. Over the 7 years that I have been with my team, we have created strong chemistry that has led us to our success. Ever since my first year with this team I knew that we had something special. We are a great group of knuckle heads that work hard and strong together on the ice.
