Speaking Up to get What You Want
“There is a time for many words, and there is also a time for sleep.”
―
One day during March break I was skiing at Attitash and I wanted to ski the park but it was closed. So for the first part of the day I skied by myself and checked every few runs if the park was open. After some time, I saw one of my friends, so we decided to ski together until the park would hopefully open. While we were skiing we saw a few more friends of ours, so they all joined us and we skied together.
At around 11:00 we decided we should go to the park crew shack and ask them if they were planning on opening the park today. A few of my friends went into the shack and came out with some sad news. The park crew was not going to open the park, but they said we could take one run through it to see how icy it was. We went up to the top of the park and skied down the park that was not icy at all. The park was lazy because it was the end of the season.
I had the idea to ask the park crew if we could get the tools and work on the park so maybe at least the bottom of the park could be open. Because I had the idea I had to go in the shack and ask them, but I was scared because the park crew was grumpy. My friends knew this so they hyped me up. “With these words she flew away like a bird into the air, but she had given Telemachus courage, and had made him think more than ever about his father.”
Once I was in the shack I had to convince the park crew to allow us to use the tools and go into the closed park. I had a feeling I had to be crafty with my words to let us do this. “So by day she’d weave at her great and growing web by night, by the light of torches set beside her, she would unravel all she’d done. Three whole years she deceived us blind, seduced us with this scheme.”
When I came out of the shack I had a grin as big as the jumps we were about to build on my face. I had convinced the park crew to let us fix up the last two features and use them for the rest of the day.
