The Endless Power Friendship
Some of the most import people in your life, Friends.
“Sometimes you have to lose the small battles to win the war.”
-Sun Tzu
Friends are with you to the end. They helped me through the toughest part of my life. When my grandmother passed away, my friends were there with me to the end. They sat with me, made me smile, sent me gifts.
One friend was stood out to me the most. My family friend, Breadon, he’s so close to us, we call him a cousin. Trust me he could make a dead man smile. When I was sitting with my head in my hands, he went over and converted me without being asked too, and in a couple minutes, I was smiling.
It was a cold fall day, silent as a mouse I was sitting in the ever quiet funeral home, barely breathing, barely thinking, barely holding back my tears. Relentless waves of family and friends came to me and wished me the best. But no one could cheer me up, or make me feel remotely faster. Then they showed up. They knew my grandmother almost as well as I did, but he, Breadon, put me first, and sat down next to me. Just that simple act made me feel a little bit better, then he started talking to me. At first i wanted him to stop, I couldn’t listen to jokes, but he overpowered me. Soon, I was laughing and smiling.
Without friends, without uncontrollable laughter, without love. I don’t know if I would be the same today. If he didn’t cheer me up then, and in the upcoming days, I would still be in that mindless trance I was before he showed up.
Friends are with you to the end. The end might be soon, it might be in a while, but that is uncontrollable, so in the time you have left in this world, make the best of it. Laugh a lot, smile, love, but most importantly, be the friend that will never leave.
A great reflection, and very creative of you to use the Parallel Structure in your smoking gun, instead of your Head and Heart. After reading the quite stale sounding “It didn’t matter” repetition in so many other paragraphs, it is refreshing to hear something new and fresh.

Great paragraph Ethan. You used a great vocab, and a very somber story to truly show how friends can always feel better. I hope we all have someone in life like Breadan

I think was a very deep, and thoughtful story. You were really sad over a loss. But a friend made you feel a lot better. Your head and heart was great and made this overall story really meaningful.

I experienced this also when grandfather passed my cousins and I were sad at the wake and we started talking and joking and we felt better.

There is so much emotion packed into every nook and cranny of this paragraph. I felt a chill down my spine when I first read the opening sentence to the smoking gun. The parallel structure in that sentence is very unique and it added emotion to the paragraph. One problem that most people have in making sad stories is that they either have too much sadness, or too much of a happy ending. Your paragraph has a perfect balance of both. Great job, Ethan.

This really shows how powerful friendship is. In one of the hardest times in your life your friends were able to pick you up. And, like Nick said, it’s cool how you used parallel structure in your smoking gun and not the head and heart. Great Job!

This story you can tell is very genuine, not many 8th graders would talk about this kind of stuff, good for you! I know how friends can bring you up in the worst of times, and I’m glad they did in this emotion-filled paragraph.

Ethan, your story is very genuine and it really shows the power of friendship. There is so much emotion, and I could really feel the emotion through the screen. It shows how a friend can pick you up during a tough time. Good Job

You really did a great job explaining how your friend Breadon can “make a dead man smile”. Having a friend like this in your life is very important, and everyone needs one! Great job!

I like how you really explained how funny Breadon is by saying he can make a dead man smile. He is a true example of how incredibly powerful friendship can be.

Great job explaining your emotions, in a deep engaging way. Good job with parallel structure in the beginning also.

Brendan reached out to you even in such a tough time in your life, what a good friend. Though when he laugh it may not fix that past, when we laugh at least alleviate some of the pain. Great Job.
