what the white mountains really are
”going to the mountains is going home”-John Muir.
Sometimes you need a break from school ands the suburbs. And for me thats going up to a New Hampshire for seven weeks in the summer. When I go up to camp Mowglis, I try to take in everything there. The wildlife, the beautiful mountains and the awesome friends I make. Everything there is special and means so much to me.
I was sitting on top of Mt. liberty in NH looking at the purple sky with my camp friends, during a camp out. It was five in the morning and we hiked up a mountain to watch the sun rise. It was an experience to never forget.
My friends and I were on the presidential mountain trail, which has some of the most famous in New England. These mountains brought made many memories, but this one was better than the others. We decided to climb the mountain at sunrise in the morning we asked everyone if they wanted to join, most people denied, but me and a few others agreed to go. And I think now the people who denied it regret it because it was the coolest thing ever.
Our counselor woke us up very early it was still pretty dark outside, we got on our boots and started going. It was so much easier than before, because we didn’t have 30 pound packs on our backs. We were only half way up when someone backed out, now we only had three. We finally got to the summit to see one other person there we talked with him and watched the dark sky change to yellow, there was a stage where everything was bright purple. We looked at the gigantic mountains we hiked yesterday along with what we would encounter the next day. We had to leave though to catch breakfast, I looked back one last time at all the mountains I previously hiked and thought “this is the best place ever.”
These are the white mountains and have some of the most beautiful views ever, they mean so much to me and create a gigantic part of my life. Everything about these beautiful woods is amazing and I take it for granted, I’m so grateful I can hike these mountains and see what a beauty New England really is.
It isn’t glory I get from hiking such challenging mountains, it isn’t for a picture to post on social media. It’s the nature and beautiful sights you see.
