Empathy is an essential core value. Empathy is caring for others and standing up for someone when no one else is. When someone is picking on someone else, you have to step up and make it right. Because if you don’t, the bullies wont stop and it will be an endless cycle. There was one time at my old school, where an older kid was picking on a kid in my grade. It was football season, and we were playing football when an older kid started calling my friend names. My friend missed a pass and thats when it started. Another teammate on his team who was an older kid, called him out for it and gave him a mean name. Everyone shared worried looks, as we knew our friend was going to get bullied. Then there was another play where the same thing happened, but this time the older kid called him a faggot. There was then complete silence, until one kid told him to stop. Then all of a sudden everyone agreed and told him that it wasn’t cool. Now he was outnumbered, and he then knew that he should do that again. This story is so important, because this was the first time anyone stood up and told him off. Previous to this incident, he would call many kid other names and insult them on there looks, clothes and athletic ability. This was a great moment for everyone who had been bullied by him, because after this experience he stopped and we defeated the biggest bully at our school.

Empathy is so important because if you have someone who cares for you, you will feel safe, you will feel important, and you will feel like your at home.

Standing up is the most important thing you can do if you let something happen then you are apart of the problem and fixing a problem is always better than letting a problem happen great writing!

The chain reaction from when one person stood up to him to when everyone stood up to him is great and it shows the power that coming together can have. Great job.

Nick Brady

I agree with Sean, and in this peice you perfectly demonstrated the power of a crowd, especially when used for good. I'm also sure that the bully had some thinking to do after this event, as it is rare that something to this extent happens.

While mean names ar something we all have to put up with, pure derogatory words are ones that we as a community need to some out entirely, and the way you and your friends did this was described well in this piece.

Good parallel structure. I don’t get how people can be so mean. Standing up to a bully is always justified, and satisfying. Nice writing

William O'Malley

It was good that someone recognized that something needed to be done, and was the first to say something, which led to everyone else agreeing and helping too, outnumbering the bully.

Oliver Ali

This is some great writing, Colin. You didn’t side track at all and you hammered home your theme. Also, great use of parallel structure in your conclusion. It is the perfect way to end your piece. Well done.

It is quite evident that one guy could bolster the opinions of everyone else in the game. You all new what he was saying wasn’t true, but that one guy stepped up, and so did all of you. Definitely an interesting story.
