Be the change you wish to see - Mahatma Gandhi

Every morning at six am, I regret leaving my bed to get up, get ready, get on the bus and then go to school. That’s why if I was to make 9th grade at Fenn better, I would try and make school an enjoyable experience for all. The list of changes could go on and on and on for miles and then there would still be things that people would want to change. That’s why by changing the most common complaints that my classmates make, school would hopefully be a little more tolerable. Changes I would make include, knocking down the school house, adding more snack to the school store, playing music in the morning and finally, giving the upper schoolers to have less homework.

One of the many plans that I would put into effect to make Fenn more enjoyable would be knocking down the school house. Fenn is currently rebuilding and renovating all of its academic buildings apart from the school house. Considering the fact the school house is one of the oldest buildings and it doesn’t have Air Conditioning causing everyone to drip sweat like a melting popsicle on a humid hot summer day it is clearly time to rebuild and make it better then it currently is. In addition to that, it’s been proven that new and modern learning environments allow students to be more engaged in the actual lesson. By having a new air conditioned environment to learn in students can feel comfy in the new chairs set in an air conditioned classroom. With the new air con, students can focus on the lesson instead of the heat bothering them. While there may be arguments that the school house holds history within the school community, by updating it to 2019 instead of 1960, it would allow students to be able to work hard and produce good grades.

Another change I would make to Fenn would be to have more snack selection in the School Store. As the committee chair of the school store, the contestant complains of not enough snack get old and boring. By having more snack selection at the school store not only would my ears be pleased from having the same “You guys should get this or that” but the customers would have more selection from the same five snacks. Other changes that I would make to The Fenn School would including playing music in the morning. One of the first things I think about when I arrive to school include how tired I am and how I can’t wait to go back to bed. By having music playing in the mornings, not only would it put students in a slight better mood for being at school but it would also allow them to wake up.

One final change that I would make to Fenn would include to allow the Upper Schoolers to have less homework. With the near to 5 pm finish to the day, having hours of homework is one of the last things my classmates and I want to be doing till late at night. By having less homework we will be able to do more enjoyable things that include watching TV and catching up with the social media world. One positive to this could be that by having less homework Upper Schoolers will be able to fit more enjoyable free time into the time they would usually be doing homework. This would then allow them to be able to go to bed earlier and be more energetic during school. With all things considered, making changes to Fenn to make it more “student friendly” and updated to 2019 might make the students and faculty’s lives a lot nicer and more enjoyable during the school day.

“The oldest buildings and it doesn’t have Air Conditioning causing everyone to drip sweat like a melting popsicle on a humid hot summer day it is clearly time to rebuild and make it better then it currently is”. I just thought that was kind of funny. I like how different your ideas are (even if they are a little extreme). If someone were to ask me who wrote this I would know exactly who instantly (WHICH IS GOOD BTW). In all seriousness, I thought that so far this year, this has been one of your best pieces of

Overall good piece, although I don’t agree with some points they were all argued well. I agree that adding more snacks to the school store would be a great thing, even though I have never gone to the school store in all my years here. With playing music in the halls I feel like we would run into the problem of music choice. No one wants classical music if the attempt is to wake them up, but enough people dislike rap, rock, pop, and other genres of music that it would be impossible to make everyone happy. I don’t necessarily agree with knocking down the school house, but I see your point in it. I agree with less homework, but also disagree. Homework is important because you only get so many hours in class a day, and because of that you need to spend more time than we have to get better at something at a quick rate. Less homework would be awesome, but our learning would significantly slow down. Now a comment on the writing of the piece: it is quiet good, being fairly convincing even when I don’t agree. However, it seems that you need to break up your paragraphs more, as multiple ideas are in the same paragraph. Anyway, great piece, could use some breaks but makes a good argument.

I agree that homework is annoying but we need to have homework so we don’t have to come into schools on weekends or increase school hours. The teachers need to teach us a set amount of stuff by the end of the year. And homework takes a lot off what we need to learn during class. Classes would be less fun, less relaxed, and less enjoyable. We would leave school very tired because of all the information that the teachers crammed into your classes.
