The essence of community, the power of place and the value of stewardship
”I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days, before you’ve actually left them.”
-Andy Bernard
Everyone has a place where they feel welcome, for me one of those places is Fenn.
The essence of a community is an important part of anything, whether it’s a camp or a school it is what defines the place. A community that I’m a part of is Fenn, this year as a ninth grader I’m a leader and someone that the younger kids look up to. I’m also someone this year that has to help make sure that the community stays like what’s its been for years. A lot of time when someone’s talking about Fenn they’ll talk about the community or they say something like “the community as a whole” which just shows how much community matters in a place.
There is a place that everyone has that they have a lot of really good memories from, for a lot of people at Fenn that place is Fenn. I think having a place like this is really important because as a kid it’s important to have a place that you create brand new memories at. Also so when you get old you can look back at your childhood and say you can brag about the fact that you better childhood then all your elderly friends. Every once in a while when when a Fenn alumni comes back and talks about how important this place was for them and how much it helped what they do today. I imagine with most people their special place to them has affected what they do today everyone who talks about how much Fenn has affected their life today say you realize how much of an impact it had until you leave so I guess I’ll just have to wait and find out the truth.
As the oldest students on campus this year it’s out responsibility to be the leaders of the campus. Everyone of my teachers so far has told me how important it is for us to be a leader this year and I’m sure I’m gonna hear that throughout the entire year and especially if I get in trouble at all during the year. Although all the teachers really talk about is us being leaders around school they don’t talk much about the fact that as ninth graders some of us are gonna end up being captains for a varsity sport. So it is really important for us to be a leader this year around campus and on the field.
The essence of community, the power of place and the value of stewardship are the three pillars that we live our life at school by.
