Getting through quarantine
”Never let your best friends get lonely...keep disturbing them.”
- Anonymous
As I sit on my couch trying to figure out how to use zoom I see everyone in my advisor's face pop up on my iPad. It had been almost three weeks since I had last seen any of my friends in person, and although over a screen isn’t really in person I was still excited to see them. I sat on the same spot on the couch for the rest of the school day, only really moving to get food. When the day was over I thought I could get used to this. It was really nice to finally see my friends. During these boring times class has actually been nice to go to, it gives me something to do, so I’m not completely bored. Having a close group of friends has helped a lot as well, whether it’s messing around in class, playing Fortnite together or even texting through the day it’s been nice have my friends there.
Throughout my years at Fenn I’ve many different friends, it wasn’t until sixth grade that I really expanded my friend group. Since that year we’ve all gotten to know each other much better. We’ve always been there for each other when we need them most. This spring was supposed to be the best part of our senior year, but sadly we’ll never get to experience it. We were supposed to become even closer and have as much fun as we could on our trip to Six Flags, our graduation, our senior prank and field day. These four the things are something every ninth looks forward to at the beginning of the year. I think now is the most important time to be talking with your friends and having fun with them any way you can, for a lot of us we might never see some of these people again. Who knows, maybe sometime during the summer we might have our graduation and maybe even our trip to Six Flags.
Everyone in the school has had to switch to online learning, I along with many others would much rather be at school then sitting in my house staring at my other classmates faces. Clearly we have all had to adapt to change, and I feel like this could help us out next year at our new school. Well have all had to adapt to a new environment, just like we’ll have to next year, so I feel like this is a little bit of practice. Obviously moving on from your school means moving on from your friends, so along with adapting to a totally new environment, we’ll have to adapt to totally new people. Personally I’ve never really had to adapt to a new environment, when I came to Fenn I came with all of my friends from Nashoba. I think this experience will be very fun and interesting.
It’s always good to look on the bright side of things. As I mentioned before I really am not a fan of online school and quarantine, but I’ll be honest there are a few positive things. Some days I’ll only have one zoom and the two times that’s happened so far it’s been a first period class that I had, so I didn’t have to do anything else for the rest of the day. The work load has definitely been a lot less then usual, which is obviously a plus. I’ve gotten to play Xbox with the boys a lot more then usual, mainly because I used to have a rule where I could only play Friday and weekends, but now I can play whenever I want. I’ve gotten to sleep in a lot more then usual, before I got up at 6:15 now I get up at 8:50. Whenever your getting upset or getting down about something try and look on the bright side of it.
Everyone should have friends that they can go to for anything, who will help them when they need it or when they just wanna do something. You should always have friends that are there for you no matter what.
