Taking a break from life
”Ow, I hurt my leg, I can’t run, a lion eats me and I’m dead. Except I’m not dead I’m the lion.”
-Dwight K. Schrute
As I stood atop of the tower bolted into the dock floating on the lake debating whether or not I should dive head first off of the ten foot tower, Jack Bretl in the background yelling for me to do it. Finally came to a decision and dove. Hoping for everything to go well and then slap. I slam my chest on the water. Taking a break from our daily life and just spending time with your friends is important for everyone to do every once in a while and that’s what we’re able to do as a grade at Camp Belknap.
Everyone of us ninth graders were told by our teachers how important it is for us as ninth graders to be a leader this year in all parts of school, but the one issue is that all of our classes are with “all” ninth graders, except for arts, and most of the teachers don’t really seem to care about the sports aspect. All of this just doesn’t really make sense—and the way that they are dealing with it doesn’t work either. Doing some exercise that tells us what type of leader we are is the wrong way to do it. We should find that out by ourselves by actually being a leader in the classroom or during sports.
You learn something new everyday. It may not always be about yourself but while I was a Camp Belknap I learn something new about myself everyday. Each day we did some new activities. One day we played a dodgeball tournament the next day we did archery and went sailing. One of my favorite activities that we did was archery. So as a cabin we stood there at the archery range all in our sweatshirts and sweatpants as a the rain slowly came down. I had only done archery once before So I wants expecting to do very well but I ended up doing pretty well. I got two bullseyes and most rounds I got four of the six arrows on the target, but one round I got all six of my arrows on the target and was feeling a bit like Hawkeye. Although we did a lot of different activities during our time at Belknap I really enjoyed doing archery. I got to spend time with everyone in my cabin and learn a lot about all of them.
We all enjoyed stepping away from our daily life before school really started to go into the woods and just spend time as a grade.
