Motivation

All roads lead towards getting tired.

Motivation is interesting. On one hand, things sometimes (emphasis on “sometimes”) work out really well, and it almost seems like there’s limitless energy and potential in the world. On the other hand, I just kind of wish that it didn’t exist in the first place. It’s too inconsistent. It never appears when you want it to appear, and when there is energy, it never lasts for long enough.

Especially with all of the hobbies and activities that I’ve done in the past, if you were to draw a graph, my energy levels would look like the weirdest roller coaster that’s ever existed. One that goes really deep into the ground, too. All throughout my life, I’ve had fits of insanity, almost, where I’ve gotten extremely interested in things before, only to suddenly just straight up quit barely a week later. Not even a week, in some cases. It wouldn’t be so bad if it were only my hobbies that were affected, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. The larger issue is schoolwork.

Now that school applications are over, I’ve hit the point where life’s just lost a lot of it’s meaning. I do realize that I should continue to try, and I do also realize that schools can reverse their decisions, but at this point, I just don’t have the motivation anymore. After all, if I miss a few points now, wouldn’t I just be able to make it up later? And, realistically, what’s the difference between a project that I put everything into, and one that just barely gives me an “A”? Honestly, from what I’ve seen so far, I’m pretty sure that the middle school teachers are more strict when grading than the upper school teachers. It’s kind of counter-intuitive, and just lets us get away with sloppier work. I’m at a loss, right now.

Maybe it just takes a good night of sleep to fix everything.

I like the analogy of the roller coaster. This is a very relatable essay, as you covered a lot of things, such as loss of motivation after a big task and not continuing a hobby.
