The Place I Go
It’s very green, and not necessarily in a good way.
”My uncle's dying wish - he wanted me on his lap. He was in the electric chair.”
-Rodney Dangerfield
Carving light grooves on the ground as it rolls around, it’s gray, cylindrical wheels squeaking in a chaotic symphony of noise. Small, dark, scratched pneumatic pumps and levers work silently in the shadows, holding things away from the cold, lifting things up into the dry air above. Other, confusing, illogical knobs, flimsy gears, and spindly levers work unseen, controlling unknown things behind their thin, painted, metallic walls. They might not even do anything, but no one would know—they hide it so well. That, however, is only the base of the tower. It’s the foundation of the structure, the part that no one sees. Although it seems complex, there is only one purpose for why it all exists: to hold up the structure above.
It’s not a great structure, but it certainly is green. Even though it’s a sickly, yellowish, brownish shade of green, it’s an undeniable fact that it is in fact green. Why is it green anyway? Most people in the world wouldn’t know, and I certainly don’t either. Perhaps it’s to remind people of the color of grass. Diseased, wilted, lifeless grass, that is. Or perhaps it’s sole purpose is to make people so tired of seeing green, that it forces them to not want to eat vegetables. Too many conspiracy theories exist already, and so adding one more should be fine, right? However, I do suppose that the color doesn’t really matter. After all, surely a color can’t make a structure collapse, can it? But, a squeaky joint could.
Every time the joint moves, it almost seems like a mouse is slowly, and very painfully dying somewhere inside it. Actually, make that two mice. One isn’t nearly loud enough, and three probably wouldn’t fit inside it. Two whole mice wouldn’t fit either, but if they were chopped up enough, it probably would work. But, there’s a slight problem. You can’t see the joint either.
I suppose that was feature put in on purpose by the designers, though. If it was exposed, it would be far to easy to get a finger, or some other nonessential thing stuck inside it.
This is the place I go.

This is one of your finest writing pieces yet. It has the descriptive power of Steinbeck coupled with your own unique twist on things. I couldn't ask for anything better.
