The Power of Chores

Adding more health hazards to the world isn’t very nice.
“Do you know how you get the urge to clean your room, and it’s no big deal? But when your mom tells you that you have to clean your room, you don't want to? That's me, anyway.”

Chores are rather useful things. Although I don’t necessarily like doing them, at least with our current technology, life without chores would be quite unpleasant. I don’t really have a meaningful experience to write about, because I quite honestly don’t learn anything when doing chores. I basically just shut off all of my cognitive functions, and then do whatever my subconscious mind tells me to do. Which may or may not be actually helpful.
I’ve always done chores with a sort of “If it bothers me I’ll do it” attitude. If it annoys me, or if I’m in the mood to do something, I’ll do them. If not, I won’t, unless my parents or someone else tells me to do it. That is, as long as they have a good reason to do so.
If my room gets messy to the point where it bothers me, I’ll clean it up. If it doesn’t bother me, I don’t see any reason why I should change it. At least in my opinion, excessive cleanliness isn’t necessarily always a good thing. It doesn’t quite feel right, and it’s probably a waste of energy anyway. Same with doing something like the laundry. If I run out of clean clothes to wear, I’ll put them in the washing machine. If I still have some, washing clothes just becomes a waste of energy and water.
I’ve always been a (somewhat) avid supporter of the saying that goes something like “Don’t change what already works.” Chores are a fairly good example of this. If not done at all, numerous health hazards have a fairly high chance of appearing. But, if done excessively, they just become a waste of energy, energy that could be used for doing something more useful and productive.
Efficiency is key.
There’s a quote I really like for situations like this: “Cleaning things up is putting them in less obvious places”. Sadly no one respects this much and I always end up cleaning my room. Anyway, great writing, I like how you maintain the “if it bothers me I’ll do it” attitude throughout the whole piece. Good job.

You sound like Buddha advocating for the middle way through life. "The rain falls. The grass grows. Nothing is done. Nothing is left undone."
